GAY SHAME: Direct Action—Instigate, Irritate & Agitate

Self-described “virus in the system,” these subversive rascals are devoted to trans and queer extravaganza and direct action pushed to spectacular, confrontational extremes.

Working collectively outside traditional nonprofit structures, they reject the slow, bureaucratic models that often blunt radical organizing. Their focus is unapologetically sharp: resisting white supremacy, capitalism, ableism, policing, settler-colonialism, and all forms of domination.

    As their website puts it:

“Liberals think we are frivolous decorations and mainstream gays want us gone. Against them and with each other we instigate, irritate, and agitate, to build cultures of devastating resistance.”

Report Back: San Francisco Dyke March Town Hall, April 2025

In the spring of 2025, the group calling themselves the San Francisco Dyke March Interim Steering Committee held a Zoom town hall to vote on the march’s proposed values.

Despite repeated advocacy at previous town halls to explicitly acknowledge Israel’s ongoing U.S.-backed ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, the proposed values failed to do so. While not surprising given the steering committee’s prior deflections—and their attempt during this meeting to push voting before discussion—antizionist dykes continued to insist on the importance of naming the genocide being carried out by Israel against Palestinians, a stance the SF Trans March has upheld since October 7, 2023.

Sad Francisco Podcast: Zionism, Pinkwashing, and the Dyke March

Zionists continue to pinkwash Israel’s genocide, co-opting queer and trans institutions to serve the Netanyahu dynasty and the Christian Zionists behind Project Esther. One example is the attempt to erase the radical history of the Dyke March—a march that has taken place every Saturday of Pride weekend in San Francisco since 1993.

In this episode, hear from Lisa Roth of Dykes for Palestine, and Jemma and Kira from Gay Shame, as they discuss resistance, history, and solidarity.
